PresentMagazine.com asked local bloggers and readers to list their Top 10 local blogs for the year. The results turn up some perennial favorites, some fresh faces, some shameless self-nominations, and some surprises. Want to know who's writing and posting material worth checking out? Tony Botello - Tony's Kansas City

As 2008 comes to a close, it's encouraging to realize that Kansas City's blogosphere has seen an increased level of activity and readership while our pundit counterparts in print media have suffered an unprecedented financial collapse along with the rest of the nation. Make no mistake, blogging is booming in Kansas City. Here's my list featuring the best bloggers in this town:

1. Ramsey Mohsen - Ramsey is the future of local blogging. His video blogs have earned city wide acclaim and he seamlessly presents his life with the latest and greatest KC events.

2. Alonzo Washington - Mr. Washington is a Kansas City activist who has helped to solve countless murders and missing persons cases. His blog allows him a forum to consistently seek tips, highlight news and express his opinion. He is outspoken in drawing attention to violence in the metro and his efforts to thwart it. While some consider him a controversial figure, few have his reputation and record of working to fight crime in Kansas City.

3. RDM's Random Remarks - This blogger consistently offers a unique perspective regarding whatever comes to his mind. His straight talking style represents the best of what local blogging has to offer.

4. Logtar - Personal insights from this blogger are always interesting and well informed.

5. 3 O'Clock AM - Emaw, 3 AM's author, is snarky and irreverent but his blog has a great perspective and regularly provides interesting links from every corner of the Internet.

6. May's Machete - May has shown enormous courage in the writing she offers on her blog. She not only reveals the intensely personal aspects of her life but also her deep commitment to environmentalism.

7. MoxieMamaKC - Not your typical "Mommy blog." Strong opinions and an encyclopedic knowledge of pop culture mark this must read local blog offering.

8. Plaza Jen - This blog is the online representation of the "friend" everyone would love to have... Her blog is always interesting with a great many insightful comments on life in this town.

9. Nick Sloan - A young man starting his career in local news, Nick Sloan is also gathering great interest in the local blogosphere. He recently launched KCKSports.com and his understanding of hyperlocal (niche) blogging clearly outpaces the rest of his colleagues in mainstream media.

10. Midtown Miscreant - Personal stories from this blogger's interesting life are the toast of the local Internet. His unique perspective as a former con make this blogger one of the city's best.

1. www.erinintherealworld.blogspot.com - Reading Erin's sometimes-hourly updates make me laugh, smile and well, root for her and Mr. Perfect. Funny writing, honest opinion and random photos of strangers are just some of what delight readers here.

2. www.kclunchspots.com - Who doesn't like an honest review of local eateries? Find all that and more in this insightful, interesting blog.

3. faithsista.blogspot.com - Faith's blog is an account of everything from her feelings to the progress the contractors are making on her new home addition. But no matter what she's telling the tale of, she does it in such a way that I keep coming back.

4. www.kansascitydailyphoto.com - Beautiful photos. A true slice of life.

5. www.boxedfruit.blogspot.com - This year, Pom became a mother. And so, we all got to go on this beautiful, amazing journey with her. She's a beautiful writer. Her words are real, honest and true.
