When the idea of a benefit came up my first response was "No!" which was greeted with a resounding "Too fucking bad, get over it, we're doing it anyway, buck up!" But I was reminded by a man who has known me a good many years that all the good in the world that you do doesn't mean shit unless you let other people return the favor. Otherwise its just selfishness. I had to remind myself quite a few times that The Rev. was right. If good can come of this bullshit cancer thing than let good come of it. Let good come of it!! There is no better way of telling it to go to hell!

This year, Abigail Henderson (of Gaslights fame) was diagnosed with Stage III, Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC). On November 8 at Davey's Uptown and November 9 at recordBar, her family of friends, including scores of artists and businesses, threw a well-attended benefit, Apocalypse Meow, to help her meet the medical expenses. Local photographer Slimm shared images from the benefit which appear in the following pages.
While the music benefit has come and gone, the sizeable health expenses of Abigail remain and continue to grow. She needs kindred spirits in the community to stand with her in hope and support her as she has supported so many others. PresentMagazine.com published four installments of her inspired and inspirational blog (see links below). Take a moment to learn how you can fight IBC and help others including Abigail.
1) Read about IBC.
2) Be responsible about your own breast health (guys, you too!). Do regular breast self-exams and make sure you keep your annual breast exam appointments. Make sure those you love and like are doing the same.
3) Donate. Keep Hope Alive, as we say!
4) Read Abigail's journey, Hope is My Middle Name. PART ONE , PART TWO, PART THREE, and PART FOUR.
