Tasting Notes - Strip Steak Sandwich

The Perfect Sandwich

Published: Tuesday, April 1, 2008

tasting notes

PotPie serves a sandwich for lunch that is the embodiment of perfection...as far as sandwiches go. Their strip steak sandwich contains four basic ingredients––meat, bread, cheese, and onions––that combine for a satisfying meal. Served on a crunchy baguette that is slightly chewy, the bread holds a hefty cut of strip steak grilled and seasoned just right. It's not a skimpy portion full of gristle that one might find at other establishments trying to cut costs. This sandwich ($9, includes steak fries) provides a $20 steak experience for less than half the cost. Mild blue cheese and sweet caramelized red onions rest atop the steak, adding a little oomph to the sandwich without trying to gussy up the whole affair with gourmet pretensions. The three steak fries are big as wood planks and round out the meal with just enough starch to satisfy any meat-and-potatoes appetite. PotPie (904 Westport Road) rotates its lunch and dinner menu selections so call ahead if you get a hankering for perfection.
